We supply flexible honing tools to pump manufacturers and manufacturers of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, among others. Fluid technology is a form of power transmission in which a liquid or gas is used to convert and distribute power while providing extremely high force and torque values. With the aid of pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, fluid power systems generate linear movements and can transmit power equivalent to that of electrical and mechanical drives.
Deburring of cylinders and surface finishing
As a long-standing supplier to the fluid technology industry, we are aware of the importance of deburring and surface finishing tools for quality assurance and cost control. In contrast to rigid honing tools, our Flex-Hone® tools are self-centering, self-aligning to the bore and self-compensating for wear. Flex-Hone® however, are not designed for high-performance material removal. Instead, these high-quality deburring brushes remove cracked, folded and fissured metal and gently smooth the cylinder walls in the process. The Flex-Hone® tool is a flexible, elastic honing tool that grinds at low pressure and low temperature and does not damage the base metal. With their abrasive balls and flexible nylon threads, our cylinder honing tools are also versatile, reliable and easy to use. Flexible honing tools can be fitted to most machine spindles and can be used on site with hand-held power tools or in the factory with CNC equipment, robotic arms or machining centers.
Applications in fluid technology for flexible honing tools
Manufacturers of hydraulic cylinders use Flex-Hone®to create a plateau surface for optimum lubrication. By eliminating surface irregularities and reducing peaks to a uniform height, cylinder honing tools reduce oil consumption and support the wear protection performance of hydraulic oils. In addition to single and double-acting hydraulic cylinders, Flex-Hone® tools are also used for hydraulic ram cylinders (plunger cylinders) and metal bodies for hydraulic motors.
Case Study
Manufacturers of pneumatic cylinders and pumps also rely on Flex-Hone® technology!
For example, when small burrs in aluminum sleeves required costly and time-consuming manual deburring, a manufacturer of pneumatically driven liquid pumps chose Flex-Hone® to speed up operations and improve surface quality .
After the metal sleeves were machined and drilled, the Flex-Hone® were mounted in a standard drill chuck and successfully used to remove miniature burrs that could have damaged the liquid pump O-rings.
